Stabilizing

Amanda* recently moved to the area with her children after leaving an abusive relationship.  She found housing and employment and was working to rebuild her life in a new community. Unfortunately, the vehicle she depended on to get to her job and transport her children was not safe or reliable, jeopardizing her family’s stability.

Porter County Aging and Community Services’ Hardship Assistance Program provides immediate and life-stabilizing support to women, like Amanda, in Porter County who are experiencing financial emergencies. By addressing their most urgent needs—such as housing, food, transportation, and basic hygiene—the Hardship Assistance Program aims to prevent crisis from becoming catastrophe. A $25,000 grant from the Women’s Fund of Porter County is supporting this impactful program.

Amanda learned about the program while researching available community resources. She applied for assistance and learned her application had been approved the following day. Her car repairs were paid for directly by PCACS at no cost to her.

“Having a safe and reliable vehicle means I can securely get to work, access essential resources, and continue to build a stable and independent future for myself and my kids,” said Amanda.  “It feels like you’ve handed me the keys to my new life.”

Your gifts to the Porter County Community Foundation and Women’s Fund of Porter County make grants like this possible. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of women and children in our community.
